Payload ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Payload trip planning application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

Account Information: Email address, display name, and securely hashed password.

Trip Data: Routes, waypoints, points of interest, and trip metadata you create.

Payment Information: If you subscribe to Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card details.

Device Location: With your permission, for map functionality only. Not stored on our servers.

How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • To process transactions and manage subscriptions
  • To save and sync your trips across devices
  • To communicate with you about service updates
  • To improve and develop new features

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored using Firebase (Google Cloud). We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit and at rest. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

  • Firebase: Authentication and database
  • Stripe: Payment processing
  • OpenStreetMap/MapLibre: Map data and rendering
  • Vercel: Hosting infrastructure

Your Rights

  • Access and export your personal data (GPX format)
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Opt out of location tracking at any time
  • Cancel your subscription at any time

Data Retention

We retain your data while your account is active. Upon account deletion, your data will be permanently removed within 30 days. We may retain anonymized, aggregated data for analytical purposes.

Service Availability & Discontinuation

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part thereof) at any time, with or without notice. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service. In the event of service discontinuation, we will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice and allow users to export their data. No refunds will be provided for prepaid subscription periods if the Service is discontinued.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Payload and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes are effective immediately upon posting. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
